Here we are half way thru April and the weather is warm and sunny, much better then April last year which was pretty snowy. Suppose to head up to the Lake this weekend to visit friends locally, the weekend after it's spring cleaning weekend and the week after that a buddy has a week off so we'll be picture taking, visiting friends and smelting among other things to keep us busy.
EDIT: My buddy backed out. :-(
So here we are on the last day of March 08 for what has been a record breaking snow season for a lot of the Northeast US and Eastern Canada. There is lots and lots of snow left on the ground at the Northern residence, so much so it actually it looks a lot more like the end of January or the beginning of February and not the end of March. I think we'll be able to snowshoe or snowmobile for another month and the ice may actually go out earlier then last year due to the ice not being quite as thick as last year. Oh btw, if you can believe it, it's snowing as a type right now.
Here we are half way through February 2008, probably another two months of winter weather left for us here in this northern climate except for tomorrow which is suppose to be more like spring temps with some rain since the storm that is going to effect is heading to the west of us which unfortunately puts us on the warm side. We've already had over 80" of snow here with a lot more then that in other parts of Maine, overall it's been a fairly snowy winter especially compared to late years.
The first part of January was snowy and cold then we had a good five day thaw and then back to seasonal temps. Today we actually got some rain and temps into the 40's before the cold front came charging thru this afternoon. Friday is suppose to be a rather nasty storm, a mix of everything, more snow to the north of course. We'll see how February turns out in the snow and cold department.
Wow what a month for snow, winter finally arrived this year in style! We've had record breaking snow here in the lower Penobscot River valley which started on December 3rd and it hasn't stopped, we even have another 1'+ snowstorm coming tomorrow on top of today's fresh foot.
The ladder part of November proved to be on the cold side in this Northwestern Maine location with some small snow events to boot over the past few weeks. Tonight we are awaiting a rather large snowstorm that should blanket the entire region with some more of winters white gold.
Temps have been hanging around in the 31-40 range over the last week with the past 3-4 days hovering around the freezing mark, last night brought a bit of snow and freezing rain to the area which has covered the ground and made for a slippery time this morning. This week is suppose to continue the unsettled weather with cold rain and even snow, time will tell what we get exactly. The lake is full once again, it has been for the past week or so.
After receiving 25mm of rain last night today brought extremely windy weather and a daily high temp around 40 which made it feel much colder, it even snow flurried from time to time. This week looks to relatively cold as does the following week, they are calling for an inch of snow tomorrow night, we'll see if that materializes.
We disconnected the water pump and relateted items today before tonights lower 20 temps hit, kind of sad to see that go but there is no way we could keep it in without having damage done.
GO SOX!!!
After a fallish last week temp wise the weather warmed up along with a bout of heavy rain Friday night which dropped over 29mm of rain. It's suppose to be nice again tomorrow with temps around 70 and then more rain and cooler temps at the end of the week. In the 10 day outlook there has been the mention of a possible snow event next week even though that might not happen it does point to colder temps.
The lake level has come up about 7-8" from the rain over the past week or so and it might come up more over the next few weeks as mother nature transitions us towards a more stormy mid fall pattern heading into November.
Also I've seen quite a few partridge over the past week, even seen a few more deer which is always a good sign!
Well the leaves are finally past peak, that probably occurred last Friday or Saturday before the 2-3mm of rain we got Saturday evening along with the wind. This week has been the moose hunt in this zone, seen lots of bird and moose hunters but not a lot of birds and moose themselves, hopefully next week will be better. Suppose to get a fairly vigorous rain storm tonight and tomorrow, could get up to 50mm or more of rain the forecasters are saying and they have even mentioned possibly seeing snow showers on Saturday and Sunday, winter is getting closer!
